Mississippi was the 20th state in the USA; it became a state on December 10, 1817. The state was named after the Mississippi River, the largest river in North America. The river starts at Lake Itasca in northern Minnesota and drains into the Gulf of Mexico. Mississippi has had more acreage in catfish production than any other state.
