Indianapolis is the twelfth largest city in the United States and it is also the capitol of the state of Indiana. The city of Indianapolis is about 372 square miles in area Indiana became a state on December 11, 1816 and was the 19th state. Indianapolis was selected as the site of the new state capital in 1820.
