Indianapolis is the twelfth largest city in the United States and it is also the capitol of the state of Indiana. The city of Indianapolis is about 372 square miles in area Indiana became a state on December 11, 1816 and was the 19th state. Indianapolis was selected as the site of the new state capital in 1820. The city has been called both The Amateur Sports Capital of the World and The Racing Capital of the World. Indianapolis has been home of the Indy 500 since 1911. Indianapolis Motor Speedway hosts three major motor racing events every year: the Indianapolis 500, the Brickyard 400, and the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix. The NCAA Hall of Champions is also located here. You can walk through the city’s Canal Walk that stretches north through White River State Park to 11th Street. On the Canal Walk you can see the The USS Indianapolis National Memorial dedicated to those that lost their lives in the 1945 sinking of the USS Indianapolis. The Indiana War Memorial Plaza Historic District has two museums, three parks, and 24 acres of monuments, statues, sculptures, and fountains in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, making the state’s capital second only to Washington D.C. in acreage and number of monuments dedicated to veterans.

Nevada is also home to two beautiful National Parks; Great Basin National Park and Death Valley National Park, as well as Lake Mead National Recreation Area and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Nevada has 24 state parks, recreation areas, and historic sites that offer a wide variety of recreation options.
