On May 11, 1858 Minnesota became the 32nd state in the United States of America. At 86,943 square miles it is the twelfth biggest state and with almost five million residents it is the 21st most populous state in the US. Known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes”, the state’s name comes from a Indian word for “sky-tinted water”. The capitol city is Saint Paul but the largest city Minneapolis. The Minneapolis-Saint Paul area is the largest metro area in Minnesota and almost sixty percent of the population of Minnesota lives in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro area. Minnesota is home to five National Parks and sixty eight State Parks for camping, hiking, fishing, biking and just about anything recreational that you can think of doing. Minnesota is part of  the Midwestern states which also include Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Nevada became a state on October 31, 1864 and was the 36th state in the United States of America. At 110,567 square miles, Nevada is the 7th biggest state in the USA and also the 35th most populous state. Although the largest and most well know city in Nevada is Las Vegas, Carson City is the capitol. Las Vegas has over 62,000 hotel rooms for visitors to the city of lights, The “Silver State” got its nickname from the discovery of the Comstock Lode in 1859 which was the largest discovery of silver ore in the US. Nevada is also home to two beautiful National Parks; Great Basin National Park and Death Valley National Park, as well as Lake Mead National Recreation Area and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Nevada has 24 state parks, recreation areas, and historic sites that offer a wide variety of recreation options.
