Alaska was the 49th state in the USA; it became a state on January 3, 1959. Alaska is the largest state in the US at 586,400 square miles. That’s two times the size of Texas. Alaska is also the only state to have coastlines on three different seas: the Pacific Ocean, Arctic Ocean and Bering Sea.
